Project Overview

An e-commerce client required a comprehensive, frontend-only demonstration store built from scratch within a single week. The project scope involved developing two distinct interfaces: a user-facing storefront and a fully functional administrative dashboard capable of product creation, deletion, and admin management. To simulate a full-stack environment and showcase real-time platform functionality without an actual backend, we engineered a robust client-side database using IndexedDB. This critical data integration was executed in just one day, ensuring persistent, high-performance data handling across the entire application.

Problem Statement

The client needed a convincing, interactive demo to present to stakeholders. Building the UI was only half the challenge; the platform required realistic data handling to simulate full-stack interactions without server support. Standard localStorage was fundamentally unsuited for the complexity of an e-commerce platform.

Key Challenges Included:

• Aggressive Scope: Designing and building two separate, complex UI environments (Admin and User) within seven days.
  
• Capacity Constraints: localStorage is strictly limited to around 5MB, which is insufficient for storing a mock catalog of e-commerce products, rich media, and user carts.
  
• Performance Bottlenecks: Because localStorage is synchronous, executing read/write operations blocks the main thread, causing UI stuttering during complex cart updates or admin transactions.
  
• Complex State Synchronization: Ensuring that when an admin added or deleted a product in the dashboard, the user storefront updated immediately and reliably without a backend database.

Our Solution

To deliver a high-fidelity prototype, we divided the week into rapid UI development and a concentrated, one-day database integration sprint. We bypassed simple web storage entirely, implementing IndexedDB—a powerful NoSQL object database operating natively within the browser.
Key Steps:

• Days 1-4: Frontend & Admin Architecture: Developed the responsive user storefront and secure admin dashboard using React.js and Tailwind CSS. Built the core logic, forms, and interfaces required for product management (add/delete) and admin user creation.
  
• Day 5: IndexedDB Integration (1-Day Sprint): Configured IndexedDB to store complex nested data natively (objects, arrays, binary data). Set up indexes and cursors to allow for efficient product querying, filtering, and searching on the storefront.
  
• Days 6-7: Asynchronous Sync & Final Polish: Replaced synchronous storage calls with IndexedDB's asynchronous API, ensuring the React UI remained highly responsive. Leveraged built-in transaction support to link the admin dashboard and user storefront, guaranteeing that inventory updates instantly and safely reflected on the user's end.
